New government data centre to be built at PCT Cartuja
The Junta de Andalucía has announced the construction of a new data centre at the Cartuja Science and Technology Park (PCT Cartuja) in Seville, with work set to commence in November. The project, budgeted at €34.1 million and co-financed by the European Union's Next Generation funds, will be located at the site of the former Palenque exhibition area on the Isla de la Cartuja.
The data centre, designed by PQC, will be developed in two phases. The first phase will establish 1,230 square meters of IT space with a power capacity of 2.24 MW. Future expansions are planned to increase both the IT space and power capacity in line with evolving technological needs. The facility will feature a 2xN design topology and an advanced cooling system that operates without water usage.
Antonio Sanz, the regional minister for the presidency, stated, "The data centre will house systems, applications, and services through the implementation of a hybrid cloud solution, which will support future government services using innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual assistants, quantum computing, and big data."
This development is part of a broader strategy to enhance digital infrastructure within the region, positioning PCT Cartuja, an IASP full member, as a key hub for technological innovation and governmental digital services.
