A Microcity Approach Towards Innovation Districts

VenhoevenCS presents its MicroCity strategy for the design and development of future-proof Science Parks and innovation districts. We, as architects designing through all spatial scales, have put great efforts into synthesizing our vision on the MircoCity model and our knowledge about Science Based companies at the scale of Innovation Districts. Experience with working in multiple of those districts in The Netherlands and Belgium, we developed a design strategy to improve Innovation districts from an urban design approach, with far reaching results at the building scale. To us, a successful innovation district should perform very much like a bustling city neighbourhood: with strong interdependencies between people, systems, and services in the adjacent neighbourhoods. We are keen on sharing knowledge gained on what tools to use for analysis and design and to discuss the site-specific conditions that we found crucial for successful developments.
