Local and regional government officials and university representatives have signed a framework agreement finalising the development of the new Lausitz Science Park (LSP) in Germany.

The 420-hectare technology and innovation park is a joint venture between the city of Cottbus and the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg.

Modelled on IASP full member Berlin-Adlershof Science Park, LSP aims to integrate research, technology, and business sectors, fostering new value chains and creating attractive jobs in the region.

BTU President Prof. Gesine Grande said, "With the BTU at its centre, one of the most dynamic science locations in Germany is developing here in Cottbus. The Lausitz Science Park creates attractive conditions for growth, lively startup activities, and the establishment of further scientific institutions and innovative companies”.

With LSP being built on the former Cottbus-Nord airfield, Cottbus Mayor Tobias Schick emphasised the park's role in regional transformation. "We are building the third major pillar of structural change here, especially for Cottbus but also for the entire Lausitz region”, he said.

The agreement was signed by Mayor Schick and Prof. Grande in the presence of Kathrin Schneider, minister and head of Brandenburg State Chancellery.
