The government of São Paulo in Brazil has initiated the creation of its first innovation district, with Acting Governor Felicio Ramuth signing a protocol of intentions. The district aims to foster collaboration between universities, companies, research institutes, and startups, enhancing innovation and technology development in the region.

Governor Ramuth highlighted the potential of the initiative to leverage the combined expertise of leading institutions in São Paulo and Latin America, predicting significant advancements in applied science and innovation.

The project will begin with the establishment of a working group to develop the necessary infrastructure, complementing existing structures that support innovation in São Paulo.

The announcement ceremony was attended by key government figures and representatives from major innovation bodies such as the University of São Paulo (USP), Institute of Technological Research (IPT), and Instituto Butantã.

These institutions, along with partners like the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp) and the City of São Paulo, will collaborate on the project.

The innovation district will feature a 45,000 m² physical space with interaction rooms, event venues, and training centres for entrepreneurs. The project is expected to drive urban transformation, boosting civil construction and the local economy.
