The UFRJ Technology Park has announced that it will host Blue Rio, Latin America's first innovation hub dedicated to the Blue Economy. Launched by Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro state government in collaboration with Portugal, the hub aims to promote sustainable development of ocean and marine resources.

Blue Rio will focus on attracting startups working in navigation, ports, logistics, renewable energy, sanitation, and sustainability. The initiative is expected to foster innovation and create economic opportunities within these sectors.

Romildo Toledo, director UFRJ Technology Park, an IASP full member, said: "This partnership will generate many benefits for the program partners, participating startups, and the entire state of Rio de Janeiro." The hub's establishment is part of broader efforts to enhance the technological and economic landscape of the region.

The agreement for Blue Rio was signed during the Global Ocean Day event, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in advancing the Blue Economy. This project will not only drive technological advancements but also contribute to environmental sustainability and economic growth in Rio de Janeiro.
