A competition for SMEs registered in the special section of the Chamber of Commerce, that also encourages others to register.

In 2020, Trentino Sviluppo launched the first edition of the Innovative SME of the Year Award, a competition for SMEs registered in the special section of the Chamber of Commerce and SMEs that could aspire to register. Quantitative and qualitative performances of the previous year are evaluated.
Run and managed by Trentino Sviluppo in collaboration with the local chamber of commerce, the Innovative SME of the Year Award promotes SMEs as one of the main vehicles of innovation: startups may be more fashionable, but the hard work of innovation often relies on SMEs. They export innovation and create economic value for their regions, and are considered the backbone of the EU economy, and yet still attract less media attention than startups. This award programme encourages innovative SMEs to join the special register of the Chamber of Commerce which offers them many fiscal advantages.

The Innovative SME of the Year Award 2020 is the first of its kind in Italy. Trentinp Svillippo is started dealing with national Ministry of Economics and UNIONCAMERE nazionale (representing the chamber of commerce) to scale up the competition at national level.

The aim of the Award is to help innovative SMEs to become aware of their potential and of the opportunities of the special register of the Chamber of Commerce. On 20 March 2021, there was a total of 1861 innovative SMEs in the Chamber of Commerce’s special national registry, while studies estimate that they could potentially be 20,000 who qualify. 24 out of them are located in Trentino. In 2020, despite the pandemic, 6 SMEs have registered, an additional 33% of those already registered at the end of 2019. Ultimately the goal is to scale up the Award to national level to increase the growth trend.

The target users of the Award are SMEs, both in the park and in the region of Trentino.

Trentino Sviluppo is the responsible for the organisation and management of the Award. It organises the competition in collaboration with the local chamber of commerce.
