Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) is the only science and technology park (STP) and the largest base camp for scientific research, testing and commercialisation in Hong Kong. While the world is on the cusp of 4th industrial revolution (4IR) with rapid advances in technologies as in robotics, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things, HKSTP plays a vital role in supporting local industries and China at large to exploit the full potential of 4IR-related innovation and technology (I&T) to transform industries and propel growth. By identifying digitalisation, smart data and standardisation as the vehicles of 4IR development, this paper explores the arising opportunities and potential risk for HKSTP from four perspectives, namely global, country, city and STPs, and how HKSTP’s strategic roadmap can further enhance a successful transition to 4IR in China.
