Background information

The Innovation District of São Paulo is an ambitious urban initiative designed to foster collaboration and innovation in science and technology. Located in the west zone of São Paulo, it spans 508 hectares, with significant portions dedicated to green and built areas. The district is a hub for advanced research and is a joint initiative of the University of São Paulo, the Butantan Institute, the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research, the Institute of Technological Research, São Paulo Research Foundation, the City of São Paulo, and the State of São Paulo.

Key features of the district include:

-Research and Development: The district houses numerous advanced research centers and high-tech laboratories across various fields.

-Innovation Ecosystems: There are open innovation environments that encourage collaboration and entrepreneurship. This includes incubation programs for 300 companies, acceleration programs, and fabrication labs (fablabs).

-Key Partnerships: The initiative is backed by significant partnerships between public and private organizations and has attracted companies working in diverse sectors including biotechnology, computer science, and environmental research. 

This collaboration-driven ecosystem is designed to elevate São Paulo's position as a global leader in innovation and technological advancement.
