UFRJ Science Park, Brazil, has recently established a Brazil-BRICS Innovation Center for Neoindustrialization, a pioneering initiative to enhance collaboration among BRICS nations in developing solutions for public health, blue economy, agriculture and energy.

This comes hand-in-hand with Brazil’s New Industry Policy, calling for new industrial and technological development, talent attraction, and problem-solving through innovative solutions. Romildo Toledo, Director of the Park, describes the Center as a milestone for innovation in the Global South. "By joining forces, we can become leaders in global innovation, addressing shared priorities with impactful solutions".

The home of the center will be at one of UFRJ’s top-of-the-line buildings within the Science Park, space that will also host innovation hubs for startups focusing on AI, public health, the blue economy, decarbonization, energy transition, agriculture, creative economy, and social innovation, enancing the position of Rio De Janeiro as a global innovation hub.

Being a multi-national ecosystem, UFRJ Science Park acts as a valuable space for the BRICS Innovation Centre for Neoindustrialisation, with over 50 entities including deep tech and research laboratories. The rich collaboration between academia and the private sector at UFRJ facilitates knowledge transfer and hence boosts Brazil’s economic position internationally.
