Potsdam Science Park
The Potsdam Science Park based in Golm, Germany, is one of the most innovative locations for science in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region. With more than 40 internationally renowned research institutes, it forms a unique research cluster and campus in the countryside just 30 minutes from Berlin city center. More than 12,500 people conduct research, work and study there in the fields of biotechnology, medical technology, optics, geosciences, astrophysics and gravitational physics.
Two institutes from the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft have settled in the Potsdam Science Park: The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Sciences (IAP) and the Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses (IZI-BB) division of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology. In cooperation with industry leaders, both institutes are developing innovative solutions on the cutting edge between medicine and bio- and material-sciences, from bio-based packaging to lightweight construction materials.
Also on site is the Max Planck Campus, made up of the Institute for Colloids and Interfaces, the Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology and the Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute). From basic research with microalgae and the development of sugar-based vaccines and intelligent biomaterials to the discovery of gravitational waves, these renowned Max Planck Institutes have made Potsdam-Golm world-renowned.
The park has close links with the University of Potsdam and its more than 20,000 students and seven departments. The University is closely networked with the non-university research institutions in Potsdam and the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Its consistent strategy to network within the region has developed Potsdam into an attractive location for young scientific researchers from Germany and abroad. The University created Potsdam Transfer, a centre for startups and innovation that supports scientists in translating innovative solutions developed from research into practice.
