Aramco, one of the world’s leading energy and chemical companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia to advance research focused on energy transition and sustainability. The collaboration aims to address global and local challenges by developing commercially viable solutions.

As part of the agreement, Aramco will invest up to $100 million in research and development projects at KAUST over the next decade. These funds will support a range of initiatives, from foundational research to applied technologies, as KAUST continues its efforts in scientific innovation.

Tony Chan, KAUST president, said, "The partnership exemplifies KAUST's commitment to fostering research that drives technological advancements and addresses real-world challenges. Our collaboration with Aramco will leverage our combined expertise to develop solutions for a sustainable future."

Key areas of collaboration include energy transition, sustainability, materials transition, upstream technologies, and digital solutions. Specific topics identified include liquids-to-chemicals conversion, low-carbon aviation fuels, hydrogen research, carbon capture and storage, and renewable energy.

KAUST, whose Research & Technology Park is an IASP full member, will also contribute to this partnership, supporting innovation and enhancing Saudi Arabia's position in technological advancements.
