IASP members - Expansion and Growth Plans

With the emergence of new innovation comes the need for new spaces in STPs/AOIs. These include buildings with office space, high-tech labs, and incubation centres. Such expansions are significant steps taken by STPs towards growth, as observable in some of the IASP member parks who decided to expand their spaces this year.   

Surrey Research Park Unveils its New 90,000 sq. ft Building:    

A new building opened its doors recently at Surrey Research Park, where a state-of-the-art lab will be located. Priestley Building was redeveloped as of late, creating a space to foster the growth of industries through high quality office space.    

The 90,000 sq. ft building was acquired three years ago, and has been in the redevelopment process ever since. The focus of the work was to form a laboratory space perfect for Life Sciences research among other innovation sectors. LGC Group has already claimed their space in the new building, with more than a third of the office space still open to lease.  

Central Taiwan Science Park Expansion: 

The Taiwanese ministry of the interior has approved 89.75 hectares to be appropriated to expand IASP member Central Taiwan Science Park allowing for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, to grow and enhance its services. These technologies are fast growing in Taiwan recently, causing the government to procure mostly privately owned land in order to advance its semiconductor growth.  76% of the space, previously a golf course, is to be transformed into advanced fab space along with the rest of the 89.75 hectares, previously owned by government agencies.  Upon completion, the new project is expected to generate over $15 billion annually, along with creating 4,500 jobs. 

Milestone Expansion at NETPark: 

IASP member park Northeast Technology Park (NETPark) in the UK, set off its phase three expansion spanning 26 acres. The 100-million pound project already has its tenant, Filtronic, signed to move into their new headquarters in 2025. Filtronic’s move follows their growth supported by their new business deals and endeavours in the space, defence, and aerospace industry. Their choice to expand their facility is driven by the park’s commitment to innovation and growth. Filtronic is identified as just one of many companies at NETPark benefiting from the expansion.  

The news of the park’s growth comes alongside their celebration of 20 years in operation. While celebrating the successes of NETPark’s two decades, they are also able to look forward to future waves of innovation possible with their 285,000 sq. ft of new spaces, supported by County Durham.  

NOI Techpark opens new university engineering building:  

Italian IASP member NOI Techpark extends its reach in education and research as it opens a new Faculty of Engineering for the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in its heart. This new building will be home to more than 800 engineering students and faculty, facilitating the advancement of knowledge and collaboration within its walls and beyond. The new addition to the Techpark is valuable for the local economy and hence the pursuit of solutions for tomorrow. 

Edmonton Research Park's Hand in Canada's Pharmaceutical Industry Growth:  

The Canadian Critical Drug Initiative (CCDI), a $200 million project led by Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API), is partnering with university of Alberta. The partnership will create an integrated research, commercialization, and manufacturing cluster at IASP member Edmonton Research Park. They will create a “Critical Medicines Production Centre”, a 83,000+ sq. ft manufacturing facility located on 7acres of land in the park. This makes it home to Canada’s largest and best equipped critical medical production facility. This acts as a significant step in the life sciences industry, as it promotes both drug research and production at a high scale.
