Strengthening ties in research and innovation between IASP members in Saudi Arabia and Sweden

IASP member King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in Saudi Arabiarecently visited another one of our members, Ideon Science Park in Lund (Skane), Sweden, strengthening global ties in scientific research and innovation. Headquartered in Riyadh, KACST is a key player in advancing technology and innovation as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the nation’s economy through science and technology.
During their visit, KACST representatives engaged in a full day of meetings and site visits organized by the park. The delegation explored cutting-edge research and development facilities, including Camurus, the European Spallation Source ERIC, and the MAX IV Laboratory, gaining insights into Sweden’s thriving innovation ecosystem.
Collaboration was a central theme of the discussions, with Science Village Scandinavia AB and Medeon Science Park & Incubator joining the dialogue on developing future partnerships. The conversations focused on the commercialization of research and support for start-ups, highlighting opportunities for joint initiatives that could benefit both regions.Thevisit underscored KACST’s commitment to building international collaborations that drive innovation and scientific progress.
By engaging with Sweden’s top research institutions and science parks, KACST is actively exploring new pathways to accelerate innovation, expand research commercialization, and enhance start-up ecosystems. This visit marks a significant step in strengthening partnerships between Sweden and Saudi Arabia, enabling knowledge exchange, and advancing technological developments that align with both nations’ long-term strategic goals.
