The complete sequencing of the genomes makes it possible to study the coronavirus evolution and trace its origin. The novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was isolated in Friuli Venezia Giulia too. This achievement stems from a collaboration between the Giuliano Isontina Health Authority, ICGEB and Area Science Park (Open-Lab Argo genomics and epigenomics platform).

The novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was isolated in Friuli Venezia Giulia too. This achievement stems from a collaboration between the Giuliano Isontina Health Authority, ICGEB and Area Science Park (Open-Lab Argo genomics and epigenomics platform).
Two results were attained: firstly, the complete sequencing of the genomes, which makes it possible to study the evolution of coronavirus over the course of the pandemics and trace the origin of the viruses that have been introduced in Friuli Venezia Giulia; secondly, the availability of viral isolates for the diagnosis as well as the research of antiviral molecules and a vaccine.
