Earlier this month, the Executive Director and Chairman of China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), Mr. Yang Jie, visited our member the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, accompanied by a senior delegation. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G and supercomputing.

The delegation was received by Dr. Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector for Research, Innovation and Commercialisation at NUST. During a detailed briefing, Dr. Riaz highlighted NUST’s emphasis on international partnerships and its well-established ecosystem that connects academia with industry to drive meaningful innovation.

The group also visited SINES, Pakistan’s first interdisciplinary research cluster, along with key facilities under the Center of Emerging Technologies, including the National Center of Artificial Intelligence.

The visit provided a platform for in-depth discussions around potential joint efforts in advanced wireless technologies, AI development, and innovation-led industrial collaborations. Ideas such as setting up joint research labs, launching training initiatives and collaborating on technology development projects were proposed as next steps. The visit concluded with a shared commitment to building a long-term partnership focused on high-impact innovation and global technological advancement.

We congratulate NSTP for this successful exchange, and look forward to new developments that can emerge from international collaboration opportunities.
